T5 trans adapters for sale 700

Hey guys, I'm copying this from the 2 series forum. Just talked to a v8 guy who'd done a T5 in his 740 and he said you can have the shifter welded slightly differently and it works for the 7 series cars fine too. SO here you guys go!

Well, almost. They are in the final stages of completion then I get mine!

Ok, first things first I have to thank John Parker (obviously), Jordan G and Dave Lot for sending a clutchfork and throw out bearing with out whom part of this project would never have gotten off the ground. I only had the bellhousing, the clutch fork was still in use on my 242

Ok, so it's finally been done, we have T5 adapters for sale. The running price at the moment is 250 an adapter, which includes the machine work on the bellhousing.

The bellhousing has a shaft that goes around the input shaft that (if I remeber correctly) is for the throw out bearing to slide on. Well, on the T5 the input shaft is larger (obviously) so this has to go. Now, John P is trying to have them on an exchange basis, but he needs to aquire a few m46 bell housings to machine them all at once, vs a piece by piece basis. This will help keep costs down (to the 250ish).

So if you want one, a bunch of you guys should start sending bellhousings now. Also, he'll probably or give you credit towards any extras you can give him.

Ok, so now I bet everyone is wondering about the swap. Now, I know that certian people (whose intials are PB) don't like to see people posting things before they have done them, but because of kenny's broken m46 I am being extra nice right now. So I can only go on what I think will be required.

It looks like you can use a ford mustang 4 cylinder clutch disc under the OE volvo pressure plate. The clutch fork and throw out bearing can be reused (clutch fork for sure, TO I'm not 100 percent sure of) and the T5's input shaft's tip is the same as the m46. Now, if Im wrong please correct me, its been atleast 2 weeks since I've gone over the swap with JP. Obviously the Driveshafts are different, but theres 2 ways to go. You can either convert to a 1pc (my plan) or use the 2pc with the ford yoke welded on. Also, I've heard that the Tbrids use a similar yoke as stock and that it helps it be a bolt up.

The guys who would know more than I about the driveshaft and Xmember is the V8 guys. I think Greg Wong (iirc) has a t5/t56 in his v8 wagon. Someone does atleast. Anyways, once again, iirc they use the stock xmember, it just requires some grinding.

The other reason I am posting a little early is I was planning on doing this swap durning this month, but getting my engine dialed in will be taking all my time.

Now heres the bad news. As of this moment, it won't fit the 740's because of shifter position. That doesn't mean it won't, rather JP thinks that the camaro output shaft and rear housing is longer than the fords and should line up for the 2 series. But, right now all the focus has been on just getting the adapters done.

Alright guys, heres what YOU need to do. If your intrested or can send extra bellhousings, get in touch with John via www.v-performance.com and get in line. Keep in mind, he's taken a leap here making T5 adapters for me, lets make it profitable for him. I've assured him there is plenty of us intrested.

Oh ya, and those of us with mechanical speedo's... not sure if you can make it work or not. Probably not. But, it would be easy to adapt an Autometer speedo, or use a later rear end with the electronic sender and an aftermarket speedo (like a digital one).

Now that we have transmissions, NO EXCUSES!
Thats my bellhousing on that T5

Oh, now I know I've got flammed for this before, but this is the hurdle on the swap. From here its not too difficult looking. I will know better (and document) when I do it, but right now it looks like its going to be one sweet swap.

I probably should jump in here.

The $250 price is just an estimate at this point. The exact price will depend on
a number of factors, including how many we can do at one time as opposed to doing one-offs for individuals. If any of you can send me a few bell housings, I will have them machined along with an initial run of 5 - 6 plates.

Which pilot bearing to use depends on the T5 trans you are using as there are two sizes of input shaft tip. The throwout bearing will have to be Ford or another that fits the diameter of the sleeve on the T5 shaft. With a chevy T5 ( Camaro ) you may be able to bore out and modify the Volvo throwout bearing as the sleeve is smaller.

The shifer location with the Mustang T5 is just right for the 240 but approx.
4 inches too far forward for the 740. Although the shifter holes in the tunnel will not match up, there are various shift levers that can be used to move the top of the lever back where it should be, making this essentially a cosmetic problem.

Just remember that at this point we are just doing the adapter plates and machining the bell housings. We are not doing a complete kit, so adapting various parts, the speedo cable for instance, will be left up to you. It is also up to you to figure out which T5 to use, what clutch modifications to make to hanlde all of that extra power you are putting the T5 in to handle, etc. This was not something that we had planned to do this spring, so there has been no time to work out all of the details as we would have liked in a typical project.
That said, I will help out with these issues where I can.

Thanks John, you've already done plenty to help us along! Hopefully your getting quite a few emails about this.

My 242ti is really being the test dummy for this swap.. we'll all know more soon!
