OD not working (again) 700 1992

Here I am again. Now the computer or server is loosing my messages so I apoligise if this is getting redundant. Don, you were helping me with this, and now the thread doesn't show up (at least on my computer). I tried to add a thread last night, but had problems then also. Anyway, I put in a new relay. the OD is engaged. If I push the OD switch, nothing happens to the OD and the dash indicator light stays out. If I remove the relay, the OD disengages. The dash indicator light stays out. When I had the incorrect relay, the OD was disengaged, would not engage, and the dash light was on. So my conclusion is that there is a problem with the switch or wiring. Sound reasonable? How do I test this theory and fix the problem if this theory proves out. I hope this message reaches you people, as I am fetting more frustrated with this computer & server. Thanks.

"Can't find my Posts"

If you look to the right on the index. Under the year groups of posts, you will see "created" and "modified". If you have "created" selected, your post will continually get shoved to the bottom regardless if someone replies to it. "modified" means just that. I found 4 of your posts starting from 1 Apr. Used your name for search.

OD not working (again) 700 1992

The OD. I have a 1989 740T M45 trans; OD kept cutting out or wouldn't engage. I hoped it was the relay (cheapest otpion first, right?). Nope, not it. The clods at the local dealership were pushing a new solenoid on me. That didn't feel right. And of course there is the possibility it is just the little sw/ on top of the gear shift.
If none of this has worked there is the oft overlooked and oh so inexpensive 4th gear sw/. My M45 trans has it positioned right-side of the trans aligned about where the shift lever enters the box. Jack the front end up and from underneath you can see a wire, reach your hand up on top of the case and you will find a 22mm nut with a male connector. Just slip an articulated wrench up there and unscrew it. It's like a fridge light switch for 4th gear. Since it is continuously clunked by the shift it wears down. After a point it won't register to the relay it is in 4th anymore so it won't engage the sloenoid. Hop this helps.
