Air Temp. Sensor S90-V90 1995

I have A 1995 960 WAGON WITH 159,000. (What A grate car) The outside air temperature read out in the car reads –188. I suspect it is the sending unit. Where can I find it on the car?
Also is there a good do it your self repair manual available. I do all the minor repairs on my 88 240 & 96 850 turbo using the Haynes manuals. I can’t find anything for the 960. I did by a Chilton 1990-1998 general manual for all volvos and it stinks.
Thanks, STEVE

Before you buy a new try rewiring it at the sensor. Salt ate up the wires on mine but the sensor was fine. I cut wires at the sensor, pulled out the wire terminals, cut the leads back until I had clean wire, used 3M bullet style terminals (blue)on the on the clean leads. (remove the blue plastic from the terminals) Slide the terminals into the sensor and check to see if it is functioning, if not reverse the terminals. When it is working, tape the heck out of it. Mine has made it through 2 detroit winters since this repair.

Thank you very much. I had ordered the part when I got your respond, went out and shour enough a broken caroded wire. I fixed it using a bullet terminal, sealed it with some epoxie and it workes fine. Its so much fun living in the north east. Thanks, STEVE

Our 98 S90 has two sensors, one on each side of the lower bumper/air dam.

    Better than nothing : Chilton's (8428)72302

Better : Alldata on-line are another source.

    Best : Volvo Green Books

DEWFPO (have Chilton's, had Alldata subscription, have some Volvo Green Manuals)

Well, that's interesting...two sensors. I did notice the same hole on the other side where a sensor might plug in, but the kit I received had only one sensor. I can't imagine why there would be two of these so close together. I mean redundancies is good, but this seems a bit of an overkill! That said, I will peek undedr the grill to see whether there's another connection on the other side.

The temperature sending unit is located behind the lower front grill. It basically snaps into place there. It's about a 5 minute job. The bad news is that it's not cheap, but you're right, it does seem like it's the sender. I installed one in my V90 recently, and either way, the installation is not bad, but the price may take your breath away.

    Yep, they are great cars...
