Transfer Pump Gasket and Hose Replacement 200 1981

I have to replace the gasket where the in-tank transfer pump and gauge sender unit seals around the gas tank because it seeps gas at full tank. I've heard a lot about the little hose inside the tank at the transfer pump going bad. Would it be wise to replace that while I'm in there even if it's not bad yet? Is it something you can buy at an auto parts store or is it a dealer or Groton item? Any other tips would be appreciated.

Should I buy any particular hose clamps? Or does the hose just push on? I've never done this job before.

You can use regular hose clamps but be careful taking the old clamps off.The pipes the hose fit on are barbed so they don't slide off. Also the piping may be corroded.
I was able to open a pretty badly rusted (16 year old)locking tab with a tool I made from an exhaust clamp and visegrips. You put the u-bolt thru the top of the clamp(flat side)tighten the nuts and then bend in the ends and attach the visegrips to the u-bolt as a handle.I was putting in a used sender/pump and I was able to reuse the gasket and locking tab from the donor car.

I used regular old FI hose, bought at NAPA. There's one type that's more chemical resistant or has a higher pressure rating and it cost more/ft. Buy that since you only need 3" of it. If your parts guys are cool, they'll just give you 3" of it.

It would be a mistake not to replace it. You can use a 2" chunk of the appropriately-sized (inner diameter) Neoprene fuel hose.

Just be sure you use the highest quality Neoprene fuel hose available. Keep in mind that the pressure in that hose is almost nil, since the tank pump merely primes the main pump. In other words, pressure rating of the hose is not a concern.

Do NOT use actual rubber -- it'll last about 2 minutes in gasoline.

About 5 years back, I replaced that hose in my '82 turbo 245 using a scrap from my junk box. So far, so good.
