Can anyone tell me which number on my vehicle is OFFICIALLY considered to be the Vehicle Identification Number? Is is the number on the small rectangular plate on the inner driver's side fender with the Volvo emblem on it? I've been given differing opinions...

    On my '66 it is stamped into the firewall just below the center of the hood.

    Simmy;

    As far as I know, it's the model number (from the plate), PLUS the unique one punched into the body, either just above the freash air duct over the heater core in the engine compartment, OR in the horizontal shelf just behind the battery tray (next to heater valve).
