Too much tranny fluid 700

Could too much transmission fluid cause a bad vibration at stoplights? My 87 740 has developed a real bad wheel shaking shudder when stopped in gear. I just checked my fluid level and it is about a quarter inch over the plastic measuring part of the tranny dipstick. I'm planning to drain out about two quarts before driving any more to keep from blowing the seals but I just wonder if all that stress on the torque converter could cause the shakes. Motor mounts look to be in okay shape.

740's are prone to engine shakes at idle, and the cause is usually bad engine mounts. The hydraulic mounts are a little pricey, but aftermarket is a lot cheaper than the dealer. The rear transmission mount can fail as well, and that one is cheap (<$10).
Also a good throttle body cleaning should smooth the idle some. Gasket is $1.

There's no stress on the torque converter or the seals. The trans will ditch what it doesn't want, so you can pretty much assure yourself that it isn't too full. I've seen a lot of AW transmissions where the stick reads way up when the trans is hot, or has been sitting for an hour or two.

(I read it the correct way. Thanx.)

Regardless of what the stick is saying, your shake at idle is a result of some other problem, not the transmission fluid level. Unless it is way too low.
