plastic fuel line 200 1987

I need the plastic fuel line from the fuel filter to the injection manifold. There are no parts stores that carry this plastic fuel line. I called the dealer (Bill Gray Volvo) and they want $85.16 for this line. I had them order it and it will not be in until monday. Has anyone else found this fuel line at a better price other than with a dealer?

My other question is about installing the fuel line once I have it. The "O" connector that goes over the bolt into the fuel filter, how will it connect to this plastic line? Does it get forced in the plastic line? At the same time does the line go over the connector to the injection manifold in the same way? If anyone has replaced this line could give any insight it would be appreciated. Thanks

Assuming you want to reuse the piece that is currently covering the fitting barb I'd say forgetaboutit. I know that makes getting a full length fuel line from the pick and pull dependent on using the fittings it came with.

No, I'd like to remove it so that I can put a new hose on. On my 245, the particular line in question is attached at one end to the banjo fitting on the fuel filter, and at the other and to a metal fuel line. I really do not want to replace the metal line, but the plastic line is "barbed" on to it.

If you're throwing away the plastic line, why not use a sharp knife? Be careful not to gouge the barbed fitting so the new line can be heat sealed in place. Sorry if I seem confused about what you are trying to accomplish, but you did say "anyone".

I just finished replacing the frequency valve on a 82 240. It uses the same type hose and slips over the same type barbed end. I used a heat gun to soften the end of the hose before pushing it over the nipple. I practiced on a piece of old hose before making the final connection to the new valve. This way I was able to confirm how close and how long to apply the heat without damaging the tubing and still be soft enough to fit it up fully. I also installed a hose clamp over the connection when finished. The clamp may not be necessary, but it helps my peace of mind. Be careful, this hose must carry high pressure gasoline. Even a small leak can be hazardous.

I bought the fuel line for my '89 a couple of years ago. The line came with the "banjo" fitting attached.

Actually, I only wanted the "banjo" fitting, but Volvo doesn't sell them separately. I couldn't find the fitting locally, and I couldn't wait for a special order, so I just paid the outrageous asking price for the whole assembly.

Those fittings are difficult to find, despite the fact that many European cars use them.

You can soften the plastic tube up by placing it in a cup of boiling water. (Use the microwave) Be sure to only heat up the part of the tube that will go on the connector or it won't have enough rigidity for you to be able to push it on.

Seems like I remember reading in the manuals that you are supposed to warm up the ends of the hose with a heat gun (don't melt) then push them over their barbed fitting.

    Good luck,
