Hello all. I have a 740 GL (159,000+ miles) with an automatic transmission and the OD is becoming a little frisky. It pops off sometimes and comes back on when it feels like it. Randomly, it will be off when I start the car. It doesn't pop off while driving but it will pop back on when driving. No amount of mashing the OD button does anything when it has popped off. I haven't found a pattern yet but it is happening more frequently now. Ideas?

    Follow the great suggestions that the others have listed first because it = the cheapest solution. If nothing is working AFTER checking the switch, relay and wiring you might have the same problem I had. The problem was solved by replacing the OD solonoid . It is expensive so make sure it is not the other stuff first (I would be even inclined to not only resolder the relay but also replace the electronic components like the capacitors inside to eliminate the posibility that the relay is a problem without having purchasing a new one).

    Resoldering the overdrive relay would be my first line of action. If you don't solder find someone who does so as to avoid the cost of a new one.
