745t on ice... Not bad 700

Drove into work today on roads covered with up to an inch of ice. Other than the car wanting to spin itself around CCW it was really uneventful. I had 4 25lb bags of cat litter in the back and was able to clutch and idle away from stops then short shift through the gears to 4th and 30-40mph. I even made my way past a S60 (?) that was having trouble pointing straight down the road.

ABS seems a little crude but it works.

The only incident occurred at work in the parking lot. I parked, turned it off, patted the dash, said thanks and stepped out. Arms and legs everywhere I managed to snatch off the rear windshield wiper as I slid down the grade.

RWD wagon in the snow and ice? Works great.

745t on ice... Not bad ... fun! 700

Up here in Massachusetts, at the first snow, I always do a few donuts with any RWD car that I have driven. With four good snow tires, none of our four drivers have any trouble in the winter. (Of course, the kids were in the car a few times when I did some spins, maybe they have done some of their own!)

If the back lot where I work is frozen, I park by spinning my Caprice cruiser around. Monday, One of the kids on the trash truck almost fell over when I hit the lot, spun, and parked at a 45 degree angle in one swoop!

745t on ice... Not bad 700

i totally agree. As long as i put weight directly over the rear wheels, my 745tiM46 is pretty easy to drive in the snow and ice. Sometimes i even find it easier to drive b/c i can throw the rear of the car around easier, thus giving a simulated 4 wheel steering effect.

745t on ice... Not bad 700

My son took our '86 745T skiing last winter, took the wrong chains, (stupidly) stayed on the slopes even after it started snowing, then (wisely) decided not to drive down the mountain (Tahoe to Sacramento, 7000 feet) without the chains. I drove up with his buddy's dad in an Expedition. The SUV got stuck as soon as we got off the plowed road into the ski area parking lot (only 12" of snow). Walked the rest of the way, put the chains on the Volvo, and then used it to clear a path so the lumbering beast could get back to a plowed, paved surface. Smirk.

745t on ice... Not bad 700 1990

I have a 1990 745gle and am in need of some good tires for all season traction dry, rain, and occasional snow. Any ideas?
