142 tie rods/front brake calipers 140-160 1973

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the tie-rods are interchangeable (i.e. left or right side are the same) on the 140 series?

Re the calipers, in any caliper I've ever seen (other car makes) you remove the caliper by undoing a couple of bolts and lifting it away with the flex lines attached. On my new/old 142, it looks like there is a little bracket on the front dust shields that attaches one of the brake lines and so I think you must have to open the lines to remove the caliper. Correct?

The first time you remove the caliper you do have to unhook the line that
goes through the bracket on the dust shield. However while you have
it off, get out your Dremel tool and #409 cutoff disks and slot that
loop so that once you loosen the backup nut, the hose can be slipped
in and out without removal on subsequent occasions.

(Hopefully you will not be doing this on a weekly or monthly basis.)

Tierods: Negative. Tierods are definitely handed (due to the angles of the balljoints to the rod proper).

Caliper: Affirmative, you will need to disconnect that line. Technically you (or rather I) can sometimes get away with pulling out the line a bit (although that's a lot easier on the 240), but of course that has serious safety implications if you get it wrong so I couldn't possibly advocate doing so .
