engine number 200 1981

I've thought i bought a volvo with a b21a but no i begin to wonder. The onwer said it was b21a. In the registration card it says 1986cc, so that would make it a b19a. The engine number is 49885602940. I've tried the vin decoder on volvoworld but i can't work it out. The VIN number is YV124421152606299.What i think is that the 21 after 244 is the engine number and that would make i B19A, but if i follow the vin decoder the model gets all wrong. The car is a 1981 model registered in 1980, so there may have been som cahnges to the vin style during this period. I really need to know how big/or small the engine is....

A B19A does typically have "B19A" stamped into the side of the block near the distributer. my 92 B200F has "B200F" cast in with a manufacture date circle etc below the exhaust manifold.

You should be able to find something on the block.

Could it be that your car is a private import? Here is a VIN decoder for 240's other than US and Canadian models: http://www.volvo200.org/modellen/chassisnummer.htm
You will find that "21" is still a B19A.

Chassis Identification pages say your VIN car number (last six digits) of 606299 is a 1981 model year. Tht year the engines were B21A/F/FT, B23E, and D24.

If there was a change in the coding in a 17 digit VIN, I can't help with that.

    Good Luck,

    Bob
