Hood release cable snap 200 1993

Are there any tricks to replacing a broken hood release cable.

Was going to tie some line to the cable end at the hood and pull the broken piece back through to the lever, then thread in the new one.

Didn't know if the firewall was going to give any problems.

The cable is unique to 90-93 airbag models. I couldn't find one at the boneyard, so I ordered new. It comes with the handle, cable, and sheath and is only like $40.

Is the cable just a single wire? (It is on my 1980). If so, a replacement wire of the same gauge should be stiff enough to poke forward through the sleeve.

So why replace the whole unit? I would try finding a suitable stiff wire first. If you can work it through the existing sleeve, you don't have to either buy a new setup or pull out the existing one and replace it (which looks to me like it would be a PITA).

If you go this route, be sure and lube the wire good when you put it in. Maybe needle-inject some grease ahead of it into the sleeve.

      Good luck.

Remove and replace took the better part of 10 minutes.

I can't remember exactly, but there is some sort of connection between the handle and the cable that would be tough to duplicate DIY.

          Appreciate the replies.

Once two feet of snow is clear, will get the cable. Lot of money for a piece of wire...just a dollar diffence between fcp groton and the dealer.

These things never break in July.
