Power steering mounting bracket snapped in two! 700

My power steering pump mounting bracket snapped in two during the night to Sunday. Has this happened to anyone else? This is a diesel but I presume that makes less difference. Is this metal fatigue as someone suggested?

Power steering mounting bracket snapped in two! 700

    Hey George
Ive had the brackets break before on my diesel, I just take it in stride. I went and reviewed the pictures you sent me a while back and from what I can tell you have that cast aluminum bracket that is prone to breakage. Nothing that I know of that can be done to help relieve it other than maybe heat treating to relieve the internal stress but even that is a futile effort.
Aluminum hates constant vibration like what the bracket has to endure, not only does it have to deal with expansion but also the angles of force placed on it from the belt and the inertial loading caused by the power steering pump itself. I did have the fan bearing bracket break on me once so I just removed the whole affair and replaced it with an electric fan and shortened up the belts to compinsate.

Hey when would be a good time to send me that TIC intake manifold?

    Cheers!

I am very glad you replied. Every time I go to the shed, I feel somewhat guilty. I will get this stuff to you next week. Can you e-mail me your postal address? I still need the hose from turbo to intercooler, should I just ship what I have, i.e. inlet manifold and intercooler to manifold hoses?
