Our 1982 244 GLT has a driver's door problem. After sitting out in an ice storm overnight the driver's door would not latch shut. I made the mistake of pushing the driver's door lock down and closing the door. It now is locked shut and will not open. The power locks still function when pulling up or pushing down on the driver's door lock but it is not unlocking the driver's door. The car is now inside and I am in the process of warming the area up, but I have a feeling this problem will not go away by sitting in a warm space.

Has anyone else had this problem in the past and how did you solve it? Is it possible to remove the inner door panel with the door closed (without distroying the door panel)?

My '75 245 has had a problem with the drivers door not latching when it is cold and wet. Then sometimes it will stick or jam closed. If you can get inside, and think the door is actually unlocked, try to hold the latch in the open position and give a good shove on the door with your shoulder. If the door is jammed, this should get it open.

Other times this same car, has the drivers door locking mechanism binding. It can be freed by:
Turning the key as you would to unlock the door and hold pressure against the lock.
Lift the door handle and release quickly.
Release pressure on the door lock (turn the key back to upright).
Repeat a couple of times. This seems to jam the binding lock into cooperation. Good luck

I don't know if it was a function of the car warming up or if it was from the combined attention to the locking mechanism and outside handle but I finally got the door to unlock (it was definitely locked) and it seems to be working fine now.

My right rear door is the same. I took the plastic grip off and pulled with pliers..but You said yours works? GOOD LUCK,,and no you cannot remove door panel off while the door is closed.
