T5 Trans adapters 200

I just wanted to see if there's people intrested here. I'm working with John Parker from www.v-performance.com in making T5 bellhousing adapters for our high powered 240's! Mostly testing the waters here. Looks like the running price will be around 200 each, but htis will let you use a T5 ford transmission (strong and a dime a dozen) with a volvo (m46) bellhousing. The rest of the swap is more or less covered by those pesky v8 guys ;) This is hands down one of the easiest way's to go as far as transmission swaps go.

Thanks,

Doug Kauer

So this would allow you to mate a T5 to a red block? Hmm. How big/heavy are the T5s? How to the gear ratios compare? How hard would it be to fit one in a 240?

Both of my cars are stock.. but I was just mentioning how much it would be nice to have a true five speed that would allow for a decent 1-2 upshift and not have a huge mess of wiring on it. Hell, both of my M46s are leaky and have some manner of overdrive issues.

I'm not in a position to do anything now. But I get the feeling I'll be replacing the tranny in the wagon sooner than later.

    Hmmmmmmm...

Dave, thats the attitude I like to hear!

Alex. The T5 swap will be involved, but not difficult. Basicly, they fit with out hacking up the floors (like the t56 if I remeber correctly) and are much stronger than any OHC volvo transmissions. You'll have to have your driveshaft shortened (by around 2 inches if I recall) and have to take a die grinder to your crossmember. You'll also (hopefully) be able to use a Volvo pressure plate with a Ford 5.0 mustang clutch disc and thats about it! The shifter posistion is just about the right spot.

This would make it the last transmission that most of us would ever have to install. :D

I am doing it for sure, so I will outline the entire process over at www.clubvolvo.com so this will hopefully give you a better impression of whats involved.

Oooh. Next question. You said for Ford T5s? Just Fords? Any T5 except for x, y, and z T5s? Which Ford T5s? A quick glance has given me the impression that the T5 was fitted to both the four banger and V8 Mustangs. Is either one more desireable?

And for a more generic T5 question: which ones (Ford or otherwise) are more desireable and worth seeking out?

I just donated my 740T which had the M46 so I'm just curious. Where does the adapter plate go? Is it between the bellwousing and the trans or the bellhousing and the engine?

        Thanks

        Doug,
Do you think you'll have a prototype ready for the Davis meet. I'm trying to work my schedule around so I can make it again this year.

Dave, the plan is I WILL have one in my car by Davis/Thunderhill. I'm shipping John my spare m46 bellhousing on tuesday and we are hoping to get them back to us by end of march. So it will be cutting it close, but like I said he's already got the T5 side figured out. It's just a matter of adapting the m46 side. I just conversed with him and he said we might even luck out and the m41 - t5 adapter may just be the same (though I'm not sure).

The adapter goes between the T5 and the M46 bellhosing. The T5's input shaft length is ~.75 longer than the M46, perfect for the adapter!

Dave, best bet, get in touch with John Parker (www.v-performance.com you can find his email there) and let him know you are also seriously intrested.

Looking forward to seeing you at Davis! It's the unveiling of my 242ti there!
          :D

Will this work for the m47 bell? If not, thanks for doing this anyway - it's great to see people working on these kinds of adapters..
