Sucess! 200 1985

Well, after around 5 hours (man I'm slow) I got my Oil Pressure gauge in. Overall went pretty smoothly, but a few questions have arisen out of it. First of all, how are you supposed to use the 45 degree elbow to give extra clearance for the sending unit. I tried all kinds of ways to screw it on and most wouldn't even work, the one that did had it aimed at the exhaust manifold and not missing the heat shield by much (didn't seem like a good idea to me). I just installed the sending unit right into the adapter (metric to SAE) but would like to get it out some because it is so close to the alternator. Anyone have a picture maybe that could help me. Also, in the process I routed the idiot light wire with my sending unit wire and spliced in right at the grey block. I think I want to replace more of the wires coming out of the grey block. ( I know the insulation is starting to go)What colors go where? Lastly, the gauge shows 5 bar whens its cold and the lowest it ever registered was a little below 4 at warm idle. Is this similar to anyone elses readings. This car is a B230F 1985 244 DL. Thank you.

Quick follow up, I didn't have a street 45 elbow but rather a regular 45 and a close nipple. Should I get a longer nipple cause that seems like it would help get the sender out of the way. Thanks again.

I can't help you on the plumbing as mine came pre-installed but your pressure reading sound about right... I have an complete engine out of an 85 245 out in the garage so I'll look at tomorrow and let you know how that one is installed, that is if nobody else has given you the information by then.

Thanks, that would be great if you could take a look at it. Thanks again.

I went out to take a look but this engine is "crammed" into the back corner of my shop and it's in shadow and I didn't have my flashlight with me. 20'x24' shop with 14 double flourescent tubes and this thing finds a way to be in the dark! Well, using a lighter and looking at it the bast I could it is affixed to the block with a 45 degree fitting but the fitting does not look like your "common" brass 45. The end that screws into the block is "short" and the end on the other side of the elbow is about an inch long. The sender is oriented vertically when looking at it from the side.

You might be able to duplicate this with a couple of nipples and a 45 deg brass elbow...

I'll try to round of a flashlight and look at a bit better when things "warm" up this afternoon.

          Justin
