Condensation/coolant residue is in my PCV Breather hose to breather cap on my 1989 760GLE, PLEASE HELP! 700

Hello guys!

I have another 760 question. The hose connection that connects to my breather element on the valve cover crankcase (oil-refill)had some condensation drip out of it. It was not a whole lot, but I did notice some old coolant residue (caked white substance) to be inside of the hose. Also the crankcase breather had a light brownish type of residue on its bottom end. The car does not overheat and or knock. The heat is superb, all warning lights are functional and are well. It appears that the last owner had some work done in the timing chain case area. It has a new gasket/fresh sealant in this area. Despite oil being all around the front part of the engine, no new leaks were evident. The ignition rotor also displayed oil leakage around the distributor cap shield (possible o-ring)? Again all of the other oil leakage is primarily in the timing chain case area. The car has around 150,000 plus miles, and runs/rides very very smooth! Is my head gasket going? Please help!!

Thanks in Advance

Water is a byproduct of combustion. Some of this makes it's way past rings and into the oil. Sounds like just normal condensation. I notice it more in my vehicles during winter when using petroleum based oil. Check for it after a good run at highway speed. Once things get hot enough to cause the water to evaporate you shouldn't see it.

I find the creamy, tan colored froth inside my Guzzi's (motorcycle) rocker covers after I've just been putting around but if I go out and run it harder, say 80mph (4,000rpm) it gets hot enough to cause the water to separate from the oil and be vented. Guys over on the 850 forum complain of seeing this foam on their dipsticks, especially during winter.

Unless I've misunderstood what you're describing I'd say don't worry about it.

Erwin you guess it about right! The dip stick is a honey clear (no milky residue), grit free color. It is not a substantial amount. However I just wanted to hear from everyday Volvo gurus. I think that I will just change that particular hose, and clean out the breather cap. I called several dealers and was told that this specific breather cap is on a serious back order list! Volvo=Life-time!

      Best Regards

Definitely not a Volvo guru but some things apply to all engines.

        Good luck,
