Flame trap on b21 turbo? and Oil Viscosity 200 1982

Sorry to ask a question I know has been asked before, but does the b21 turbo have a flame trap or not? I've read that it does, and read that it doesn't. One mechanic told me it does and one told me it doesn't. If so, where is it ?

Also, what viscosity oil is everyone using for the turbo?

Thanks. I just got an 82 242t, and have a lot of questions.

    My opinion is don't worry about asking a question that might have been asked before. It's nice to check the FAQ's, but, by the same token, if nobody ever asked a question that has been asked before, the Brickboard would eventually become just one big list of questions and their answers. Each day there would be fewer allowable questions, because more and more would have already been asked and answered. I think the Board would lose the dynamic give and take communication that keeps it alive and makes it such a great place.

    No flame trap per say as the NA's cars have. The plumbing is all there and the turbo itself is the flame trap.

    Well I run Amsoil Series 2000 20W-50 synthetic racing oil in my 245Ti. Works fine, flows fine at pretty cold temps.

    I recommend Amsoil synthetic 10W-30.

    I would never run a non-synthetic of any viscosity in any turbo that I wanted to keep.

    As everyone else pointed out, there's no flame trap proper.. but the turbos do have the housing.. which can still collect crap. All of the red blocks have an oil separator on the block as well.

    I'll be switching both of the bricks to Mobil 1 0w30 soonish I suppose. No way would I run anything thicker than 10w30.. especially if the outside temps don't get above 100C. 15w50 is waaaayy too thick. You'll notice this when it's cooler outside and the valve start making a racket because they're starved for oil for a while.

    No trap as such, but like previous post there is a breather box. It's not too bad to get at, just contort your hand and wrist a little bit underneath the intake manifold and it will pull off pretty easy. I'm using 15-50 Synth Mobil 1.... she's at 270K, and just the rear main seal to repair. It's not leaking any more now than it was before the synthetic.

    Which leads me to this question.... how many hrs involved in changing the rear main? I hear it's a pain so i'd like to have a ballpark # before i taker 'er in...

    No flame trap, but it does have a breather box under the intake that can get gummed up. I use 10-30 dino oil because I'm afraid my 238,000 mile engine would develop leaks if I switched to synthetic.
