Warning Chime

Just got another brick, 88 240. The warning chime will not stop until the key is removed. I don't like chimes anyhow and want to disable it but see the fuse for it is linked to other stuff I can't do without. How do I shut this little thing up.

Thanks

Warning Chime

I'm the kind of human that finds out why the warning is being given before I kill the warning system.............

Foster seems spot on.

The chime is a blue relay-like plastic box very near the gas pedal. You can put several layers of tape over the little speaker grill in its top to mute it.

But if it's constantly chiming, it's trying to tell you something -- the question is, what?

Try resoldering the pcb inside the chime. It might be a bad solder connection. This is a problem that seems to plague ALL the Bosch and Hella relays.

The chime warns of unused seat belts (with key on), key in ignition (with door open), all brake lights failed, and..... what else, folks??

I'm betting on a broken driver's door switch. Either the wires are off and grounded out or the switch is failed shorted. Replacing the switch could solve the whole problem (and probably get the dome light to work right again too).

"...betting on a broken driver's door switch..."

Excellent point. I've had a buncha those stoopid door switches become flakey over the years, but always on the hi-current (light bulb) circuit.

I also found that, if in a pinch, you can disassemble, clean, and lube the switch and you'll get another million cycles.

And that's a switch!

Locate it and cut or remove the wire.
