Flywheel bolt torque specs...? 140-160

Checked the haynes manual, and they call for 36-40 lb/ft torque for the flywheel bolts. Is that right? Seems sorta low to me... whenever I've taken one off, its all I can do to loosen the bolts... Anyone have a second opinion. In the next 15 minutes. I'll work on the pilot bearing in the mean time....

Thanka!

That's correct. Remember the bolts don't hold it, it's the friction twixt flywheel and crank. Anything that's going to get some real welly I lap them together with fine grinding paste.

Well... I looked also at the 1951 Jaguar service manual I've got... and I figure Volvo bolts are better then Jag bolts. Jag calls for 66 1/2 ft/lbs. I went with 60. Didn't even come close to breaking bolts...so I reckon I'm OK. if it breaks...well...so be it. I'm getting sick of all these metric bolts anyhow.

I also got the clutch and tranny bolted to the engine. I'll see about getting the starter on there tomorrow or Thursday. Then Friday I see if I can do the "big swap". Gonna go for engine, transmission, rear end, drive shaft...all at once. And do the auto->M41 conversion at the same time. Of course, I won't be able to completely button it up, but I'm fixin' to drive it on or before Sunday. We'll see....

Hopefully the weather will go to hell and I'll have an excuse to blow it off 'till March.

140-standard. Jag metric?

Yeah, metric gives me a headache too. Luckily, those are only on the Jag, right?
The 140 should be all standard wrenches short of some on the carbs and some on the brake parts.
40# has always been fine for me on the flywheel BTW.
