'86 240 A/C compressor crooked after bet replacement. How to adjust

I just replaced the timing belt, tensioner, water pump, alternator bushings on my 1986 240 wagon. I started to replace the belts; alternator and power steering were easy, but it was a tight fit to get the A/C belt on. It is the correct one, Volvo brand bought from the dealer. I checked it against the old one.
My problem now is I can't figure out how to tighten the A/C compressor. Have new belt on, inside and outside bracket adjusting nuts loose, as are bottom rubber-bushed bolts and nuts. Compressor looks skewed toward the crankcase pulley. When I tightened the front adjustment bolt, the skew increased. I've tried to pry the rear of the compressor in and tighten the inside bracket nut (the hard-to-get-to one, needed a swivel socket and extension) to no avail. Shouldn't it align itself? I have the Haynes manual, no reference or suggestions.
Thanks!

Are the AC mounting bushings worn. Same type as on your alternator, just more of them and harder to get at. I had to replace mine to get the compressor aligned and stop that belt squeejy noise. It is normal for that belt to be tight when slipping over the pulley.

Thanks, David, you are probably right...I did notice that the lower front bushing looked "tweaked". At $9.00 a pop, those bushings add up!
Thanks, again!
