PVR-6 intermitant start problems(264GL) 200 1978

Hi all,
I have a intermitant starting problem with my 78 264 GL. The problem seems to only occur when the car is hot and has been sitting for more then half an hour. The engine just turns over and over for maybe 15-30 seconds (too long)then starts fine. i have noticed that if the car does not start first turn (it wonts to start first turn)it exibit the above symptoms.
It might only not start 2 in 10 times
I have replaced the fuel pump relay and also setup a test loop on a toggle swith for the fuel pump but it seem to make no differnce.
I have also replaced the fuel accumulator (which a mechanic ashored we would fix the problem)
any help would be greatly appreciated

the mech should have replaced the one way valve at the fuel pump not the accumulator

also the warm-up regulator aka CPR is suspect

you really need a fuel and control pressure test!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Peter

If you have a B27f with twin box intake manfold. (B27e has big round air cleaner and octopus manfold ) Volvo fitted a impulse relay on post 81 cars to improve this problem and this can be fitted to earlier V6s if you have a Haynes manual or equivalent type manual it should tell you all about it in there. If you don't have a manual contact me on GPM262@hotmail.com and I will scan the pages out of the book and Email them to you

PS I have the same problem with the B28F in my 86 760 the last of the CIS injection systems. My car only fails to start when I have driven it and parked it and try to start it again. My car need a new fuel accumulator and maybe a new impules relay. I just discoverer that the pervious owner mechanic had fitted a 4cyl control pressure regulator

I would swap the entire engine, as prv6 (b28) is crappy.
What about mounting b6304f ? (volvo 960).
This is a 3 litre, 24v engine which outputs 204hp/290nm.
The engine will produce top nm from 2000rpm and all the way up :)
