stuck radiator fan 200 1991

I just bought a '91 240 about a month ago and tonight when I got home, the radiator fan wouldn't turn off after I turned the car off. It went for about 20 minutes before my husband unhooked it. The thermostat didn't show that the car was too hot. It is hot outside right now though (90+), but it's been like this for a couple of weeks and this drive wasn't anything out of the ordinary. Could this be a broken relay?

More than likely a stuck relay.

The relay is (should be) clipped to the ignition coil on the driver's side of the car. Just unplug the thing first.

The radiator fan works off of the air conditioning high pressure side. It's activated by a high pressure switch that turns it on when the A/C is under heavy load. Otherwise it won't come on.

The fan should never come on with the car off, sicne it depends on the A/C circuit to be energized for it to work.
