autooverdrive turns on and off at random ,any suggestions?83 245 200 1983

sometimes when i start the car the o.d. will be off then as i drive it will come back on,sometimes it is off for days,once it came on when my daughter closedthe door so it seems like a wire loose or something...anyone familiar with this problem?the lite on the dash goes on and off with the actual o.d.....help,kris

    Have you tried resoldering the OD relay? I would start there. Also check the wiring underneath the gear shift lever (just remove the two screws on cover in front of the lever, and slide it back to clear the clip on opposite side). Also wiring at fuse, and under the car where wires run from gear shifter to tranny.

    I bet that it is your OD relay though. If you need insight into resoldering, check the archives, I'm sure Mr. Foster has at least one post detailing exactly how to do it.
