My 86 240 DL trans is not what it used to be 200 1986

im like one of those do it your self auto mechanics but i am lost. when i put my brick into 1st gear and take off i hear a loud bang from under the car like the transmission is comming apart but when i check it out every thing seems to be ok, no cracks, leaks, or even visible damage. just resently this started to happen and i just got done paying for a mass air flow sensor and that wasnt cheap. i've had the car for 2 years and no problems untill now and its only got 124k which is not alot concidering there are volvos still on the road with 300k or more. and another thing i noticed was when shifting into third gear, well it jumps out of gear if i dont have the clutch completly to the floor, and there is a wineing sound from the car which leads me to belevie that my trans is shot to hell. what would it cost to replace the trans or rebuild it, i have the maint manual but i cant make much sense out of it, i fear this might be a job for the professionals, i love my car and wish to keep it on the road "for life" as the ad would say. im also seriously concidering putting a turbo on the 4cly but the manual doesnt realy tell you how to up grade your car just fix and maint. i have figured out how to fit it with a cold air intake but you know i realy dont see the differce in performance, just looks cool but hey if any one has any advise i would love to hear from you. my email is vietmarine50@aol.com.
