Make sure your antenna is screwed in tight. Also, remove your rear light assemblies and wash out any old pine needles, leaves, and guck that might be wedged in there and not allowing rainwater to drain off, then reattach the assemblies.

Water in my trunk!! 700 1986

Kaibigan El ReY: Happy Freakin' New Yera! Rey, I noticed a wet spot on the ground in the picture of your car, on the driver's side: if that's from your trunk, you got a problem. If that wet spot is from YOU, then you REALLY got a problem!! :>) Just kidding! Look, this is easier to do if your car is up on a lift, byrt under your trunk wells, where the rubber plugs INSIDE the car drain to the OUTSIDE, there is an opening, sometimes with a small-diameter hose an inch-or-so long, sometimes the hose is missing: but that is a place that often gets clogged up, which prevents water in those trunk wells from draining out. Take the liners out of your trunk, see if there's any crud or junk where the previously-described 1-inch rubber plugs/drains are, then somehow get under your car and clean out the exterior portion of those tubes/drains. Candy, pebbles, mud, etc., are the most common culprits, but I've found an amazing variety of stuff in mine. Good Luck. Salamat, Kaibigan.--PD.

nice 744, just to let you know if patching those holes in the trunk don't stop the water it most likely means that the seals in the taillights have worn out.happened to and to fix it the shop is going to put new seals on it around $40.

I have had a similar problem...pull everything out of the trunk and take a careful look at where you see evidence of water coming in. I have an '86 740 GLE, and found that there are two 1" diam. rubber plugs in the side wells on both sides of the trunk and they are vented so any water that gets in can get out. The antenna is a way that water can get in on occasion and it has a tube that is supposed to direct the water toward where the plug is...that is the easy part...now for the hard part: look for signs of rust, and any places that water might be getting through hidden rust holes or perforations in the seams, etc. I found a hole in the part of the trunk that wraps around the bumper impact absorber.

Now to fix the rust, I could have used the POR 15 trunk and floor pan restoration kit, but I decided to be lazy and use some silicone sealant (the kind in a pressurized tube) to seal any and all places I could find that let in water, except the rubber plugs. So far so good. If and when the rust gets worse, a weekend of POR-15 will be necessary, but until then (spring?) the silicone seems to be doing the trick. Good luck!

Darius, you touched on a subject that I recently learned all about. I was having water in my trunk after it rained, and I couldn't find the source. It drove me nuts until I pulled up on the drain tube coming out of the antenna housing going through the wheel tub. It was plugged and was filled with algae water. The bottom of the antenna housing (a black body which is actually a gearbox) was filled with dirt and water. Rain water is supposed to drain down along the antenna mast, through the housing, and out the drain tube. When the drain tube gets plugged, water and dirt collect in the gearbox and cause failure of the nylon gears. Believe me ... I know.

The motor still works great and the mast raises and lowers just fine. The gear that failed is used to shut off the motor when the mast reaches the end of its travel. Actually, I'm lucky the damage wasn't worse.

Your picture looks great...how many miles on your brick? I have just under 149K and going strong. Up here in the lovely NE, though, the salt can kill cars, but even so I have no real rust problem and the body is nearly perfect. Amazing cars!
