brake drag - slight hum 200 88

The right front brake grabs ever so slightly, making rhythmic, pseudo-sexual intermittent "humming" noise at speeds below 10mph. No evidence of grab, pull or early lock; plenty of stopping power. Rotor looks ok. Plenty of pad - fronts done <5k ago by previous owner. Can spin wheel fairly easily by hand when jacked-up, but stops a bit more quickly than it should. Have been driving it this way for >3k miles without problem, but what's causing it, and what can I do without major headache/resurfacing rotors etc? -

Thanks -

Re: brake drag - slight hum 200 88

The only time I ever experienced anything like you describe was on a different vehicle, it ended up being a small amount of brake fluid on my pads. the fluid makes the pads grabby.

The only other thing I can think of is that the opposite caliper is not 100% bled causing one side to respond ever so slightly before the other. Try bleeding the left front.

Re: brake leeches 200 88

Tony -

Thanks for the insight. I don't think it's brake fluid on the pads. I'll try the bleeding thing - what the hell, it worked for doctors for hundreds of years, and they didn't have any idea what was wrong, either!

Re: brake drag - slight hum 200 85

Karl

Sorry, but this is not an answer to your question. I just wanted to share that I have the exact same problem with my 85 245 GL, 78k miles. You have described it perfectly except mine occurs 20mph and below, and on the left front side. I checked with the vehicle on a lift and the wheels removed, the rotors looked a bit thin, maybe turned too much on a lathe. I've already ordered new rotors, caliper kits, pads from rprusa in anticipation of a complete brake overhaul.

Please let me know what happens to you.
