In our '86 240 DL the internal plastics have all pretty much broken up and fallen off. You wouldn't believe what a low mileage our car has, but the plastic housing around the automatic gear shift and the between the seats central plastic housing of the seat heater switches and floor ashtray have basically disintegrated.

Are there on-line locations where we can buy the replacement parts and not pay the high prices being asked by the dealership ? Or do we have to swallow the fact that only from a dealership can one get replacement parts.

Junkyards would not seem to have these interior parts, here in Hollywood.

PS, the latch on the glove compartment is not apparently fixable and the entire heavy door would need to be replaced. This is another item that possibly could be mail ordered.... N

There are different kinds of wrecking yards. What you want is a U-pull place. There are a couple of good ones a little north on the 5.

Probably get everything for less than the shipping & handling.

You can try Voluparts in Atlanta. They seem to offer it all. Example: a complete glove box with lock is $40 (several hundred from my dealer in Atlanta). I don't know the number off the top of my head, but they advertise in Rolling all the time. You can also try Volvoworld in Canada (they have a banner ad on this site).

The latch for your glove box is available as a separate part. You can

either provide volvo with your key number and they'll get one made to

fit or you can buy one with a new key. Its actually cheaper to have one

cut to your key for some reason.
