Starter Going! 700 92

My friends starter seems to be shot or

going on his 740 station wagon.

Is there anyone who can give a fair ballpark

estimate on the price of repair[parts&labor]

at a Volvo dealer. The region is in New Jersey,USA.

Thanks, rd

Re: Starter Going! 700 92

First, make sure the battery is good. Then make sure all the wiring is good. You must have a good power source, and a path to deliver it. If not, even a brand new starter wont work well, if at all.

After you're completely satisfied that a starter is what you need, I would recommend buying one from IPS, where you can get a relatively good price, then install it yourself. You'll probably save about $150.00. Installing a starter is not rocket science.

It also possible to get a perfectly good starter at the wreckers.

Good luck.

If it's anything like my 81 240...1 hour labor, 125 for the starter (that was a Bosch starter(Same as Volvo) from Import Parts Specialists, for a Volvo starter from the dealer, I'd bet you'll pay well over $200 (maybe closer to 300).
