Rough Idle 900 96

Hi everyone,

My car has developed a rough Idle. This is not being caused from the intake manifold gasket. Has anyone else had a problem like this?? The car is also burning a quart of oil every 1,000 miles. I was told that a Engine seal is bad but its not leaking any oil. Thanks for any response.

Brandon

I forgot to mention 900 96

I forgot to mention,

I was in a small fender bender. I broadsided some lady who happened to be crossing the wrong way. in a parking lot. I have some brembo crossdrilled/slotted rotors and have had a brake job done bout 1000 miles ago with OEM pads. I still could not stop intime. I have bent the frame a little and thought that maybe the The engine might not be inline with the tranny. Could this be causing a rough Idle?? My motor mounts dont look right either. They are leaking. Thanks for any info.

Brandon

Re: I forgot to mention 900 96

A "small fender bender" and you bent the frame and ruptured the motor mounts??!!

Errrrrrrrrr.......... uhhh...... Brandon?

Didn't you wipe out an S-80 in a similar fashion about a year ago?

Whats going on here man?

Maybe it is time for you to check out the new rides from MTA. They have over 450 horsepower, geared WAAY Low, The wheelbase is 5 times longer than an Expedition, HUGE panoramic windows, Day Glo orange pinstiping to be the envy of any Riceboy. They come with a 1,000,000 mile warranty, with all service done in the middle of the night AND they run on pure Compressed Natural Gas. AS you share your ride with a hundred or so of your closest freinds, you can always use the HOV lanes.

All this for only $1.75 a day.

Check them out on the web www.lamta.org

Re: I forgot to mention 900 96

Etherman,

Yes, I did kill an S80 T-6 but these are two totally different types of accidents. First off, this happened under 10 MPH. You know those people who decided instead of following the lanes in a parking lot, they'll save a whole 5 seconds and go throught some parking space. Well I am positve that this lady is never going to drive through parking spaces again without looking around for cars. I was passing some parked cars when all of a sudden to my right a car comes out and I hit the brakes. The wierd thing was I really didn't feel the impact. She was driving a honda Civic Del sol. Then We called the cops and they would not come, I ran into the Vons store and bought a disposible camera and took all the pictures I could. Then we exchanged information. The frame is not too bad, but the motormounts were almost to the point to where they need to be replaced but now they need replacing. The S80 was a pitty. That was due to the other persons lack of judgment in thier lane changing ability and driving after the first rain. If you remember the person in the #2 lane (Second closest to the center divider) was infront of me to the right. She looked in her mirror but did not bother to look in her blind spot when she changed lanes. Thus hitting my S80 and putting me into a spin. Well This had brought me to one biased conclusion "Women Can't drive" Actually I am just kidding about that. But out here Sh*t happens but thats what insurance companies are for.

I do need new motor mounts, Top and botom Radiator hoses, and a rear engine seal. Anyways who are you? How do you remember about that accidnet with the S80?

Re: I forgot to mention 900 96

As the name implies, I exist in the ethereal realm.... floating here and there... traversing time and space with impunity.

Maybe I am your guardian angel.

Maybe I am just your neighbor.

We have had many conversations Brandon. I even remember your big Italian adventure.

The last time we conversed, I believe I was stuck on assingment in a distant part of the world.

So what are you going to do with that 960? You might consider selling it for parts. It might just generate enough cash for a newer car. I'll take the blower motor.

Are you off school yet?

Keep in touch.

Well, The 960 is going to get repaired. Then possibly sold not too sure yet. The total damage is 2,800. I did not know that fog Lights cost 281.00 each. Well today is my last final, I have sucessfully completed 20.5 units.

PS. The loaner is a Town Car

Trust me, if the engine is out of whack with the transmission, you're in a heap of poo. I can assure you that's not a problem you're facing. The engine mounts are dead though, by the sound of it.

Re: Rough Idle 900 96

Same here dude. I have an '89 740 GLE 16 valve, just went over 200K. It has been idling rough for the last 20K or so, and has a slow oil seep too. I regularly clean out the flame trap and throttle body/intake area which helps a lot. See your mechanic and learn how to make sure the little micro-switch at the rear of the throttle is rigged properly. The latest thing I did was go from regular gas to premium and it was a HUGE improvement. Guess the old brick just doesn't like the cheap stuff any more. Give it a try. Your idle should improve in the first tankful.

Re: Rough Idle 900 96

You know, Mike is right. I thought many would reply so I felt ok just welcoming you to the big circle of "mee toos".

Ok look for broken vacuum lines and check the integrity of your igniter pack connectors and harness.

Those are the two big suspects until ruled out.

Re: Rough Idle 900 96

Hi Brandon:

Well, I don't know why nobody else has responded. I haven't had this particular problem other than when the intake manifold gasket blew. There is a flame trap on this engine, have you cleaned it and the intake manifold gasket?

Wish I had something better to offer you. Let me know what it is when you find out.

Mike
