Asian "Euro Lights" 200 1991

Greetings all,

I just bought a 91 240--high miles, but in generally good shape (nice paint, no rust, good elec-harness, and 5 turbo wheels!). Biggest problem is that the headlight lenses have gone cloudy and are pretty yellow. While polishing them remains an option, was wondering if there is an OEM euro light set for the newer 240's available anywhere?

I talked to the folks at "All Euro" who said they had the glass H4 type for the late 240s for $329 a set (headlights AND signal lamps). Sounds like a pretty good deal, although I'm a little concerned as they said those lights are made in Asia.

Anybody on the list have any experience with the Asian "euro" lights? Conversely, anybody updated their cars to Euro lights using OEM parts--and able to provide a list of PNs (and approximate cost)?

Bride.gov says go for it (there IS a Santa Claus!)--she must be used to the Cibies on her 245 V8 ;^)

Thanks in advance!

Re: Asian "Euro Lights" 200 1991

I have a set. Got my headlights on ebay, my signals from All-Euro. While they aren't perfect, they're way better than the stock lights. They don't blend into the front end as well, and take some fiddling to fit, but most people won't notice, and having directional beams means you can run higher-wattage bulbs without blinding other drivers. I would go back to the stock lights only under extreme duress.

I made adapters to the Volvo plugs by taking a 9004 bulb and smashing it with a hammer while it was rolled in something (think I used a piece of carpet, plus I was wearing safety glasses because the bulbs can be explosive).

Then I soldered the wires from a standard headlight pigtail onto the proper filament risers (now uncovered), and covered the connections with shrink tube and tape. You can plug the finished product into the Volvo 9004 plug and the other end into the back of your H-4's in the Euro-style. This allows you to quickly change back if you decide to sell the car and keep the lights.

The turnsignal connectors might also need a crimp to fit tightly on the stock plugs.

So you won't win a concours, but you'll see better at night.

Re: Asian "Euro Lights" 200 1991

Take a look at this thing in the archives:

I plan on doing this sometime, but I'm not in a hurry now. On my 90 240, the lenses are not foggy yet, and the light output is actually better than my 84, which has the Cibie H4 sealed beam conversion units. The light pattern is not quite as good, however. When I upgrade the wiring on the 84, I would expect the light output to be better than the 90.

Re: Asian "Euro Lights" 200 1991

I remember reading a post on this sometime last year. They said the Asian lights were to be avoided at all costs.

I have the article with the part numbers from Rolling if you'll give me your fax number.

Try Juha @ volvoworld.com. He sells the European sets. His website is called "tractor pulling center"
