Seatbelt Warning Noise While Braking 200 83

When I Press the brake while driving the seatbelt warning noise turns on. All the doors are close so its not that and my seatbelt is also done up. Has This happened to anyone before, if so is there a easy solution.

Thanks,

Mike Cox

Check your fuses (Located on the side of the footwell, drives side)

Roll them all in their holders, and check their holders. If you get a loose fuse or a short it can cause the chime to kick in. (Happened to me)

This is also a built in safety feature which tells you your brake lights are not working.!!( I think it may mean BOTH are not working, which means it may not be the bulbs)

It could be something grounding out like Jessie said, but does this problem happen when you are standing still?

Check your brake lights like Mr Benstein suggested. When one lamp is out, your bulb failure light will flash. When both bulbs die, the warning chime comes on.

Re: Seatbelt Warning Noise - I'm confused now. 200 83

"When both bulbs die, the warning chime comes on."

Greg, I responded with the brake light question instead of a firm suggestion as a sort of stall until I could trace the circuit in the wiring diagram. It amounted to advice by hearsay, as I don't know this first hand, but have seen it posted here before.

Mike Cox emailed that this was the problem with his 83.

But after studying brake light, lamp failure and chime circuits in wiring diagrams from 83 to 93, I can't find evidence to support this behavior. Nor can I find reference to it in any owner's manual. Can anyone shed light on this?

Gotcha. Maybe someday I'll have to pull my brake bulbs and see what happens.

Re: Seatbelt Warning Noise wrt brake lights 200 83

WRT = with regard to

Ten or so years back my 1983 245GL did the same thing. It was a fuse in my case. I called the tech I was using then and was embarassed when he answered so quickly. Check ALL the fuses, spin to remove oxidation and look for weak links. Come to think of it, the chime going off may have been the seat belt one or the Headlight on/door open chime.

Good Luck,

Bob

Re: Seatbelt Warning Noise While Braking 200 83

If the seatbelt warning light in the console between the seats (for backseat passengers) is not mounted in its hole and loose in the console it can turn itself on by grounding to the chassis. This also activates the dash light and buzzer. I had this happen to me. When I braked or went over a bump it would touch the chassis and the dash light would flicker. Took me awhile to figure that one out. Of course you could have a completely different problem.

Do your brake lights work?
