depressurizing fuel lines 200 1990

Hi

I'm in the process of replacing the fuel level sending unit (90 - 240 wagon) and I'm wondering about how long does it take the car to stall out after you remove the fuel pump fuse. I've got both the pump and main pump relay fuses out and am waiting for the car to die now. It doesn't seem to be working...am I missing something?

Re: depressurizing fuel lines 200 1990

    Bob --

The main fuel pump is powered through the 25-amp fuse under the hood. Unfortunately, if you yank that fuse you also kill the FI so you won't achieve your goal.

The Haynes schematics (and the fuse list) don't precisely describe the scheme used for the US models. Removing fuse #6 (I think...) only depowers the tank pump -- and the engine will continue to idle without that pump.

The easiest approach is to unplug the power feed to the main pump. This is under the rear seat, driver's side.

But to answer your question a different way...... You don't really need to depressurize the fuel lines if you're working on the sender.
