IPD Flame Trap move kit 200 1987

Hello All,

IPD sells a kit to move the flame trap from under the my 1987 244 GL's engine to a more convenient place to check and replace it.

Has anyone purchased this and been successful in it's install and subsequent easier maintenance?

P.S. I was also told to get the canester connected to this flame trap replaced at the same time. With the miles I have the canester is useless at what it was supposed to do by now. Would anyone agree?

Re: IPD Flame Trap move kit 200 1981

I recently purchased the IPD flame trap kit for my 1981 245 B21F eng.

which has 261,000 original miles. Runs great!

This is a great kit since not having to reach under the intake manifold

to remove the trap holder any more!Yes! It is easier!

No problems encountered with the detail instructions with the kit.

The only caution I recomend is to double check the length of the hose

you are about to cut. Determine exactly where you want the body of the

flame trap position. Just behind the distributor and below seems to work

well. The lower hose from the intake box must be cut also. You might find

the hose a little tough(hard)from all those miles. I used a safety razor

to cut the hose due to the limited space available. It will take a little

effort on your part to squeeze the flame trap on but it can be done.

Once installed the installation looks good. Like it was meant to be in the

first place.

I also have replaced the breather box below the flame trap.It is a chore!

The only reason for this was I wanted to clean/paint the intake manifold

with the high temp paint also from IPD.It now looks great! Any way, since

everything was exposure. I changed the box and several items hidden under

there. This was done approx. at 220,000 miles.I've found the breather box

still clear with no obstruction.

I don't know if you can change the box from the bottom of the eng??

Any way, it is worth it.

Re: IPD Flame Trap move kit 200 1987

Remove the hose from the block. Cut a longer section that places the trap higher and easily accessed. The IPD kit is another solution to a problem easily fixed for less than a buck.
