Saved by the Coolant Level Sensor!! 900 93

Had to run to Waco today, approx. 100 miles. Also, sort of a shake down cruise for my 'new' car. Had installed the sensor a week ago and today it started intermittently flashing (the warning light). Pulled over, and level was down enough to make me happy I wasnt going further without stopping.

These do work, and I strongly advise installing one as per the FAQ of Steve Ringlee.

Re: Saved by the Coolant Level Sensor!! 900 93

I'll second that advice- if for nothing else but the peace of mind. I have put them on my 82 Turbo and the son's 88 DL. They are a snap to install on the 240's. I just run them from the top post of the fuse block through a red display I picked up at Radio Shack; on out through the firewall to the float switch and then to ground. The only real work is cutting a piece of metal out of the mounting bracket on the overflow tank so that the float switch can be installed in the bottom of the tank.

I explained the function to my son and while I know he understands and will stop if he gets a solid red light I thought about wiring it up with a normally closed float switch (the light requires a normally open switch) and running the radio power through it. I know if he didn't have power to the radio it would be a real emergency in his mind.

Randy...relay the ignition from the coolant level sensor... 900 93

Then engine will stop/not run with low coolant. Have to have a breaker relay rather than a maker relay......

It can be overridden if it triggers out on the road, but at least it's a conscious choice to override it.
