Injector relay 700 1989

my car is a having similar problems to others on the post it's getting spark but no fuel. Both pumps prime and pressurize when key is turned to accesory but still no fuel. My mechanic told me to look at the fuel injector relay. The one mounted under the coolant resevoir. Apparently some have two relay's mounted there but if there is only one it's for the injectors. This relay is also the same as the coolant and fan relay so if the fan relay isn't under the coolant resevoir where is it? and what else could the problem be? (I have checked and/or replaced the fuel filter distributer cap, spark plugs, air mass sensor, and both fuel pumps, I'm stuck) Thanx

Re: Injector relay 700 1989

Do you have fuel under pressure in the fuel rail? If so, your fuel pumps are working and your injectors aren't, so you need to suspect either the injectors not grounding through the ECU, the RPM sensor, or the radio suppression relay. The RPM sensor triggers the ECU to open the injectors (among other things). If you have spark, the RPM sensor is okay. The misnamed radio suppression relay supplies power to the injectors, which are grounded through the ECU. Remove the radio suppression relay and pull the cover off, and inspect the solder joints. Re-solder if necessary. The vintage of fuel injection (LH 2.4 Jetronic) in your car is known for ECU failure with the ECU failing to ground the injectors.

Re: Injector relay 700 1989

I was able to solve my no start fuel problem by changing out the relay

in the dash...you get to it by pulling the ash tray and the fuse cover... it is the relay on the left closed to you... this is on a 740gle-16valve... as I remember it was about $35.00...the Volvo dealer had a bunch of them behind the counter... seem to be a common problem... I have had no problems since...153,000 miles...
