Turbo fuel pump continues to run after key removed??? 200 83

Hello all,

Had a weird one last night, wife's wagon, 1983 Turbo B21FT with 247k on it had fuel pump continue to run after the engine was shut off, and the key removed, turning the car to the on position then off stopped it. Any ideas where to start. I'm thinking shorted fuel pump relay. Anyone else ever had this happen? Thanks for any help you can provide....

Chuck....

I've had that happen and it turned out to be the relay. However, my relay had water in it.

Check the ignition switch. Make sure that the two halves are pressed firmly together up under the dash.

Relay is the prime suspect. The clapper probably stuck in the picked position. Take it apart and inspect carefully. Maybe take a few coil off the return spring?
