CAM COVER GASKET 200 84

New cam cover gasket, new back half moon rubber seal, proper tightening and torque on my 84 245GLTi... and the pesky oil leak continues. Didnt use any type of gasket sealer because am adverse to the sraping and clean up the next time around. But I guess I have to do something. What gasket sealant to use? Thanks, Robert

Re: CAM COVER GASKET 200 84

I always use a sealant around the 1/2 moon seal and a dab at each corner of the seal on the top side. I then install the Valve Cover gasket dry to a dry and clean head and valve cover. The best sealant is a product made by Honda called Honda-Bond, Permatex has a product simalar, but I swear by Honda-Bond HT.

Good Luck

Re: CAM COVER GASKET 200 84

I'd just use the Permatex tacky sealant, and it gets the job done. I have used it on my waterpump and intake manifold as well, and they are both sealed tight. For a long time I thought my valve cover was leaking, but I found that it was the cam seal. After that was replaced, no more leaks.

Also check the oil filler cap gasket...every one of mine has leaked oil. Not too obvious on the top of cover, but sure makes a mess when it drips down to the cover gasket level and runs from front to back of engine.

Re: CAM COVER GASKET 200 84

This is true, I recently replaced the oil filler gasket, and it has helped a lot. The old one broke into pieces when i attempted to remove it, beacuse it was so brittle.
