Gotta love those Gislaveds 700 90

25 cm of snow.......drifting to 40-odd.

Put the gislaveds (4) on last night. Went out to "play" in the snow...got frustrated by front-drive curb-kissers. Flew around for fun in the fresh snow. Never feared getting stuck. Climbed hills, serpentined in parking lot...TRIED to get stuck. Couldn't. THe ol' gizzies ripped through the snow like a circular saw.

God bless gislaved.

Not to mention the ease of rocking back and forth with an m46 or m47, 1st and reverse side-by side on the gate where they should be.

God bless Volvo engineers.

Lament the death of rear-wheel drive Volvos!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Gotta love those Gislaveds 700 90

Had the same weather here in Toronto on Mon. and Tue. morning....lots of snow. But I had just put my Hakka NR09s on the '89 245 so when the call came from the wife that the commuter trains had been cancelled off I went to get her. The snow didn't slow those Hakkas down, just the FWD cars with H rated dry weather tires crawling along at 20 kms per hour with white knuckles and fear in their eyes.

    Gotta love those Hakkas!

TO was fun wasn't it. I was looking for excuses to go driving (supposed to be studying for exams.) I don't have any of those great tires but I have new deep-grooved Pirellis on the back and I had no problem. I did laugh at the BMW with their low-profile all seasons getting stuck on the slightest incline (Baview south of eglinton).

Re: Gotta love those Gislaveds 700 90

I'm not quite in TO (closer to Hamilton) but yes it was sort of fun, though shoveling it for over an hour was not. If anything I think I have too much grip, can hardly hang the back end out unless I really hit the gas :) (only in empty parking lot of course). In my case it is Goodyear ultra grips on the back and bf goodrich somethings on the front (they just haven't worn enough to replace them this year, next yeart I think it will be goodyears all around, they do work well). Anyway have fun with your car in the winter, but still be sure not to have too much fun (or you may scare someone). I think the most fun is passing all the fwd cars going up a hill, they're all stuck at the side of the road and you go up it easily with your "inferior" rdw brick.

        Have a great day

Re: Gotta love those Gislaveds 700 90

Scott, I understand Hamilton has gotten much more snow than here in TO. Good to hear your Goodyear Ultra Grips work well on a RWD. I understand they are a relatively new snow tire. The 7 Dec. Globe & Mail published a review of four snows and rated the Ultra Grip best. The runner-ups in order were: Yokohama Guardex 720, Blizzak MZ02, and Artic Alpin.

The tests were done on both snow and ice conditions.

Unfortunately none of the Scandinavian snow tires were included in the test.

Keep us posted on your experiences this winter.

            Kevin,

I had the goodyears on the rear lasy year. They worked great on my trip down to New Brunswick last christmas. Of course the rest of last year there wasn't all that much snow. So far this year they are working great and they barely wore at all last year so theyu seem to have a good lifespan too. It is nice to hear they are so highly rated, I'm not sure how they compare to the sweedish brands, but my father had gislaveds on his 89 740 (before it got rearended and he replaced it with an 850) and they worked great too, I didn't get the chance to try them back to back but I think they are pretty close. I will keep you informed as the winter progresses (have my next trip to NB for the holidays next week 15 hour drive, but it is nice to see the family:))

            Have fun
