Distributor/Rotor/Air Filter Replacement on B230FT

I am in the process of re-baselining my '93 945T bought in Aug and also to address terrible gas mileage -- less than 14 mpg in the city. That gets expensive with high-test gas. I had the timing belt done when I bought the the vehicle

At any rate, I got my new distributor and rotor and NGK plugs from IPD last night along w/my Haynes manual and took a quick look at the distributor job. The space is obviously quite confined necessitating a use of a stubby screwdriver to loosen the three screws. Are there any other tricks or issues I should be thinking about when as I replace these two items?

Am also replacing the air filter as well and hope that addresses my mileage issue. Any issue w/the air filter replacement? That looks reasonably straightforward.

Thanks

Re: Distributor/Rotor/Air Filter Replacement on B230FT

I get quite good mileage in my '86, 22 around town, up to 28 on the highway.

Make sure the timing marks are properly set on the timing belt. Make sure there are no vacuum/pressure leaks. Inspect all hoses for breaks and cracks which are fine under vacuum and leak under boost.

The air filter replacement is straightforeward, I just remove the turbo inlet hose and IC pipe to get at it all. You might consider removing the heat riser tube, that silver solored flexible pipe from the manifold to the air cleaner housing. It really serves no purpose except to destroy AMM's.

Inspect the 700/900 FAQ for tips.

Where in DC? I work in Bethesda.
