brake-lite-switch 200 1990

i've replaced the brake-lite-switch before using the 'bentley bible.....

wasn't the easiest chore i've ever undertaken, that was before i was 'aware' of the brick-board, now that the brake-lite-switch has 'apparently expired'......last-time i took the instrument pod from its

home, removed the knee-crash-pad and worked from both the top and bottom to replace and adjust the brake-lite-switch...THIS TIME, can anyone advise

as to an easier procedure to both remove and adjust this monster???

I stuck my head in where the accerator pedal is and looked up with a torchlight. Had my wife press the brakes while I removed and replaced this small switch. not fun, hurts the neck, advise you make yourself cosy because it can take a while.

judging from the lack of responses, i'll venture a guess that this is either a 'chore' that is either left to DEALERSHIP/TRUSTED REPAIRSHOPS or a chore that has no shortcuts or quick-fix procedures....thank goodness

i have a friend with a repairshop that will allow me a warm stall i can borrow for a couple of hours during upcoming evening...meantime i welcome your 'war-stories/ been-there-advice.....thanks again BRICKBOARD....the lifeline support-team of those who 'prefer' to be volvo-owners..[ stole

        Larry --

I've replaced several brake light switches on my various 240s, and don't find it difficult.

First, remove the fuse — the power lead going to the switch remains "hot" even with the key off.

Make a quick sketch of what leads plug onto which tab on the switch, and then unplug the leads.

When on your knees peering under the dash, the switch is installed "facing away" from you. That is, the locknut is obscured behind a bracket (and largely inaccessible), and the back end of the switch is toward you.

Working by feel, fit an open-ended wrench on the locknut, and unscrew the switch from the locknut.

Likewise, install the new switch by screwing it into the locknut (which you must first slide into position).

Reconnect the leads and install the fuse. Note that you may need to readjust the depth of the new switch so it's off with the pedal up, but goes on when you depress the pedal. You MUST be certain that the switch does not act as the "stop" for the pedal.
