Gonna change my distributer cap 200 1983

I think this weekend I'm going to change the distro cap in my '83 245. I have the white cap, and I've been hearing negative things about this Chrysler part. I would assume it's still the original cap in my car. Anyhow, can someone tell me how to change this part? Is it just unscrewing the old piece and screwing in the new? Any special thing I need to pay close attention to when changing it? Any particular brand you guys recommend? By the way, what are the caps and rotors? Thanks.

From the voice of experience. The Chrysler ignition in my experience is not evil jus different.

For example the cap unscrews for the distributor. Please not as usual to mark your plug wires front to rear after you clean them. Mark number one spark plug wire position on the old distributor cop before removal.

The Chrysler rotor is not your average Bosch rotor and can be a bit of a pain to put on first time. You can't see exactly where the slot and groove mate up. On the round part of the rotor, mark a line on the outside of the

rotor following as exactly as you can the path of the protrusion on the inside is. This way you can put the rotor and distributor post in sync and not ruin your afternoon.

Now a first time tune up .Next Christmas air tools

    hey

sounds like you have a pretty classy car. the cap is the white part you see. the rotor is the part that rotates to complete the circiut to make a spark in the correct cylinder. as far as i know, the cap just pops off and as long as you put the spark plug wires and the wire from the coil in the right holes, then you should be ok. the rotor should also be removable but im not too sure about that. but as long as you dont remove the distributor from the engine block it should be as simple as a few screws or clamps.
