idle / rev counter problem 900

I have a 940 2.3 turbo - 115K miles. I have (i believe) a linked problem. The idle is erratic - sometimes it stalls. Also - the rev counter reads virtually zero, then _instantly_ changes to 500 ish, then flicks back to zero, or sometimes to 700 ish rpm. shirly (sic) the two things are related? if so - what? I am awaiting the last part of my service to be done - there is a slight leak on the head gasket - this is a bit too much for me - so a mate is doing it (and two of the spark plugs are siezed....:-(((( )

any suggestions?

Re: idle / rev counter problem 900

Read the 700/900 FAQ section about the OBD (OnBoard Diagnostics) and it will tell you how to read out the fault codes. I would suspect you might find an error with the Crank Position Sensor. It's responsible for ignition timing and tachometer information.

Keep in mind that whatever component the OBD tells you is failing, could actually be the electrical connections to that component, rather than the component itself.
