Now that it's getting cooler here in Florida ... 200 83

(temperature-wise; not the political climate) I turned the heater on the other day but didn't get any. As it will likely get even cooler in the next couple of months this is something I would like to get fixed. Does this sound like the heater control valve? I have searched the Archives but not found an answer. Other info is that earlier this year I had the AC converted to r134a (which is working fine), and before which the heater was working. However I had not thought to check it before now. Any and all advice appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Now that it's getting cooler here in Florida ... 200 83

Clive,

When I've had the heater control valve fail it's resulted in A:coolant leaking on to the driver's side floor boards or B: heat even when the valve was in the full off position (no fun in the desert summers). In your case it could be the control cable on your valve is not connected or out of adjustment. Pull the under dash kick panels on the driver's side and check the action of the cable on the valve as you work the dash slide control. The valve is located in the upper right hand corner of the foot well ... just to the left of the heater/blower enclosure. Copper valve with two rubber coolant hoses and the control cable connected to it. Make sure when the dash control slider is in the full heat position the valve is being pulled full open by the wire. You can lenghten or shorten the cable in it's clamp to adjust. Could be when the A/C work was done the cable may have been loosened or disconnected. of course your problem may lie elsewhere but check the valve action adn cable first. That's the simple fix.Hope it's what your need.

This may sound ridiculous but are you sure you have enough antifreeze to circulate through the heater core?? Low fluid level is one reason for not getting heat.

I'm not familiar with the how the heater control valve works, If it's like many cars it's just a "throttle cable" that opens duct work. I'm sure before the day's over help will be on the way.

Tony,

Thanks for the tip. I checked the coolant and it was a bit low so I topped it off. Still no difference in the heat though. I will take a look at the valve and switch this weekend.

Regards,

Clive
