Location of Door Chime; Very Important 200 1983

If one wanted to disconnect the door chime on a 1983 244 Turbo for one reason or another, how could that be done?

I could do it myself if someone could email me a schematics copy from a 1983 244 Turbo. Or telling me the location would do the trick, too.

Now, you may be asking WHY I want to do that. Well, since about one week ago, my door chime has chirped up every time I touch my brakes. I thought it might work itself out (wishful thinking) but it hasn't, and it's beginning to get a little annoying.

Thanks.

    "...how could that be done?"

Unplug it. It's down around the gas pedal. Look for a relay-like plastic box with a sound hole in the top. I taped mine over with duct tape to attenuate the chime, but not eliminate it.

"...chirped up every time I touch my brakes."

As I recall, this means that both brake lights are out. When both bulbs fail, the bulb-out sensor cannot detect a current difference between the bulbs ('cause they're both zero) so it doesn't warn you.

Check the bulbs, but also check the connections where the harness plugs onto the tail light assemblies. My '83 GL sedan gave me constant trouble at that connection, and I finally bypassed the crummy design by soldering "pigtails" around the connections.

Your door bell is chiming to tell you that the brake lights are not working. Check the fuse- it may only need to be cleaned, but chances are it is blown.
