warning light((!)) 700 89

An engine warning light (as I believe it might be) came on the dispaly tonight. The car drove for more than 5 minutes and the light stayed on. I checked the original owners manual for light explanation, and the manual does not show the same light graphics as the one which came on. The actual light on dash display is red, and looks like ((!)). Can anyone tell me what this means, and what I may have to do to reset it or fix possible problem?

Re: warning light((!)) 700 89

If you're in North America, you've got a Canadian model like mine. The symbol IS shown in the owner's book as the Canadian (based on European) symbol. It's only Americans that need it spelled out.

The most likely reason is simply low brake fluid level due to normal pad wear. An actual system failure will cause this too, but you'd generally notice a loss in braking and very low pedal if that were the case.

Re: warning light((!)) 700 89

The light you describe is the european symbol for brake failure. It usually means the brake fluid is low due to pad wear. Check your brake pads, chack calipers and lines for leaks. If all is well, top up the fluid and the light should go off. This is for cars with ABS. If you don't have ABS, there may be a pressure imbalance in the system, posdsibly bad master cylinder or fluid leak somewhere.
