my 745 (B230F, 315000km) is running just fine up to 4000 or 4200 rpm; then, it rather suddenly develops a very noticeable hesitation, no matter if it's in first gear or in fourth (I didn't go fast enough yet to test if it also happens in fifth :-), so it's impossible to reach 5000 rpm (and the land of maximum power).

the interesting thing is that, besides a bit of a rough idle, it runs just fine, no problem with low end power or highway cruise at 160 kph. fuel consumption also seems normal (8.5 - 10 l/100km).

my mechanic test drove it and said he had no idea about the cause, but that he thinks it is running too lean at that point.

any ideas?

What brand spark plugs are you using? Also what is the gap?

When was the last time you changed your fuel filter?

I am thinking along the same line, but more serious. Have you had the fuel pressure tested. I had a bad fuel pump on a 240. As problem developed I noticed similar symptoms.
