squeaking sound after washing engine 200 1990

I recently cleaned my engine with the engine degreaser stuff. sprayed it on while engine was hot, waited 15 mins and rinsed it iff. ever since that I have been hearinga squeaking sound. I can't pinpoint exactly where , but it seems to be coming form the power steering pulley, alternator pulley area .. maybe even crankshaft pulley.

I am sure some of you wash your engines . Do you like oil the bearings by spraying on something ??

thanks

zakir

You still have some degreaser that was not rinsed off the pulleys and your belts may still be picking up the stuff. Try to dry the pulleys and wipe the belts clean and this should stop your squeaking. If you can't wipe the pulleys or belts, the squeaking will eventaully stop when the water/degreaser wears off. You may also want to check the tension on all of your belts.

Re: squeaking sound from compressor 200 1990

well, I washed it off by spraying a stream of water at the alternator, crankshaft and compressor pulleys. Did not help.

I later realised the squeaking sound is coming from my ac compressor and it goes off when I turn the ac on! I verified with a wooden rod to pick up the sound, so I am sure it is not from the alternator or crankshaft or power stteering.

Also when the ac goes on, after a couple of seconds I hear a sharp click, and then the compressor comes on and the squeaking sound goes away. I did this a few times and the pattern is consistent.

it is a one year old compressor, also odd is why the sound comes on when the compressor is off!!

      any ideas ?
