90' 745T w. 5spd. Stalls after accelerating? 700 1990

I recently purchased a 1990 740 Turbo Wagon with 5spd. The car has 90K miles. When accelerating if I stop accelerating (release gas pedal) and push in the clutch the idle drops to the point where the car stalls. It starts right up when I bump start the car if its still rolling or if I turn the ignition to start it. I don't have a problem if I'm decelerating and then push in the clutch.

I've changed plugs, cap, rotor, and fuel pressure regulator. No change to the idle condition. I've checked the idle switch and I hear the "CLICK" when I push the throttle off its stop.

Any advice or suggestions. Thanks

    after all is said and done, just cuz the idle switch clix doesn't necessarily mean it works...check continuity on the idle switch connections/operation.

    Also, does this car have a dashpot on the throttle linkage to slow return of the butterfly to idle? I'm not familiar with the manual volvos, but many manual transmission cars have them for exactly this reason, not to mention chop throttle emissions reduction....

      I cleaned the TB and IAC. While I had the TB off I checked and cleaned the oil breather box. Afterwards car idled at ~1500. I readjusted idle and now runs fine with no idle drop after acceleration.

    How is the idle when just ticking over? If low, clean your throttle body.

      Idle is fine ~800rpm. Do you think I should clean the TB anyway, maybe there is something gummed up? Also do you have a link to procedure for cleaning the throttle body? Thanks again.

          Another thing to try: Clean out the IAC (Idle Air Control) underneath the intake manifold with some carb cleaner. It's round and silver, with two 1/2" or so hoses attached to it, and a coonection for the ECU computer.
