Gas Leak 200 1979

Hi. I recently purchased a 1979 264 GL, and about a month ago it started to trickle gas from just forward of the left rear tire. As far as I can tell (I am not real keen on sticking my head under the leak), it seems to be coming from above or next to, but not out of, the gas tank. This only happens from the first time I run the car each day until it has been parked afterwards for about 45 minutes. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be? Any help would be greatly appreciated. :c)

Thanks.

Re: Gas Leak 200 1979

/// There are other sources for leaks there. The main fuel pump and the accumulator are located under the rear passenger side seat. The accumulator has a history for failure and leaks. Fuel is pumped out of the tank by the intank pump. The fitting at the main pump could be leaking. But since you said there was a leak (stream) after the car is cut off I would vote for some involvement of the accumulator since is maintains pressure and gas in the line to the engine to prevent long cranks on start up.

Get it fixed now though.

Re: Gas Leak 200 1979

You really need to positively locate the leak to be sure what to do, but I can tell you that I have had three 240's that required repairs of the fuel return line. This is a steel tube that returns fuel from the engine to the gas tank, and has a habit of rusting out. It is a low pressure line and can be replaced with a rubber gas line costing about 15 dollars.
